|My name is Sandra Kruis, born and raised in Holland. In December 2008 I arrived on the island of Sint Maarten together with my partner Eric, who became my husband in 2011. I am certified to train people to become Emergency First Responders. As a Full Instructor for the European Resuscitation Council in the Netherlands I gained extensive experience in training CPR/AED/First Aid courses. I trained Police Officers, Firefighters, Dentists, Medical Students, Security Officers and many more…
Before we arrived on Sint Maarten I worked as a nurse anesthetist in the Academical Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam – in this position I was part of the resuscitation team. This meant that whenever there was a CPR situation inside the hospital or on its way with an ambulance I was involved in the follow-up.
Apart from working in the AMC, I also worked for the NGO Artsen Zonder Grenzen, also known as Doctors without Borders, or Medecins sans Frontieres (internationally known as MSF). There I was responsible for anesthesia concerning all the emergency surgical and obstetrical operations in a local hospital in the warzone in the north of Sri Lanka.
Overall you can say that I had my share of medical emergencies in all kinds of settings!
